As you may have already read on this site, I was a big fan of the way England approached the France game and am really excited to see how we develop through the tournament. We will no doubt see a lot more of what this squad of players can offer in an attacking sense today and so it’s no surprise that Andy Carroll has been heavily tipped to start
I wasn’t one of the fans MEGA LOL-ing at the inclusion in the England squad of Andy Carroll, his form towards the business end of the season (and awful lack of other realistic options) provided enough evidence for me that he was one of only a select few viable options (without meaning to sound to defeatist). I believe he has the potential to cause the opposition real problems at this tournament and return to the sort of form that saw him terrorise Premier League defences at Newcastle. He, without doubt, could also flop, big style.
Elsewhere, Ashley Young, considered the spark in Rooney’s absence needs to improve on his display against France. His form tends to fluctutae wildly, so hopefully he’ll show us a bit more of what he’s capable of.
The fitness of Gerrard and Parker is worrying, I never thought I’d utter the words that I miss Barry AND Lampard; we could really do with them right now. The quicker we get the result in the bag and get them rested the better. *HA HA* As if.
The defence were impressive, EVEN Glen Johnson, so more of the same from them.
Goals: A Carroll corker and a Milner reprieve. (1-3 If Danny could net one that would be smashing)
