That’s getting a bit more like what we like. Well don’t want to speak for you lot. That’s what I like to see. A comfortable, if unspectacular, win. Of course I prefer spectacular but after the run of performances we’ve put in recently, a nice calm win is encouraging.
Finally the main man Tony V is starting to show consistency and that’s making all the difference. It’s not all down to Nani and Rooney to turn it on every game. It also means Young has to now step up again and players like Park and Gibson have to start taking their chances in the team like they mean it.
It’s nice for Carrick to finally get a goal but seriously aside from a neat first touch (or two) to create the space he could have gone to visit Fletch with a ‘Get Well Soon’ card by the time the QPR defence decided to try and look like they were attempting to stop him. The finish was okay. He did bring what he always does, a calmness, a measuredness (is that a word), which was much needed.
Phil Jones is probably going to go on and rule the Universe, but as midfielder he is found wanting when in advanced positions. He can’t see a pass for looking. His finishing is only marginally better than Jonny Evans’s. However he is invaluable as a ‘filler’ and I love him, obv.
Rio has stepped up since SAF’s comments on his age and can hopefully stay fit. If he and Evans (a very capable defender) can form a partnership we should be alright back there.
Just need DDG to eat a lot of Christmas dinner and bulk up a bit.
Man of the Match: Carrick for a change.
